It's a frustrating feeling: a video gets thousands of views, but your follower count barely moves. Views mean people liked a video. A follow means they believe they'll like your next videos too. To grow, you need to give people a reason to expect more.
Reason 1: Your videos are all different
If one video is a recipe, the next is a travel vlog and the next is a meme, a new viewer can't tell what they'd get by following. Pick one or two clear topics and stay with them for a while. When someone lands on your profile, they should understand what you do in three seconds.
Fix: choose a simple promise, like "easy budget recipes" or "editing tips for beginners", and make most of your videos fit it.
Reason 2: The viral video doesn't connect to you
Trend videos and general memes can get many views, but people watch them for the trend, not for you. They enjoy it and scroll on.
Fix: put your own angle and topic into trends. A trending sound with a tip from your niche brings viewers who care about your topic.
Reason 3: Your profile doesn't convince
Many viewers tap your profile before they follow. If they see an unclear bio, random thumbnails, or no recent posts, they leave.
Fix:
- Write a bio that says who you help and how: "Simple money tips for your 20s. New video daily."
- Pin your three best videos — ones that show what your account is about.
- Use clear covers or on-screen titles so your grid looks organised.
Reason 4: You never ask
It sounds too simple, but asking works — when it gives a reason. "Follow me" is weak. "Follow for part 2 tomorrow" or "Follow for one budget tip every day" tells people what they'll get.
Fix: end some videos with a specific follow reason, and make series ("Day 1 of…", "Part 1") so people follow to see what happens next.
Reason 5: No personality
People follow people. If your videos are only text on stock clips, there's little to connect with. Your face, your voice, your opinions and your stories make viewers feel they know you.
Fix: share a little of yourself — a story, a mistake you made, a strong opinion. Story and POV hooks are great for this. See 12 Hook Styles Explained.
Measure the right thing
Most platforms show how many people followed from each video. Check which videos bring the most follows, not just the most views. Those are the formats to repeat. A video with fewer views but many follows is often worth more than a viral one.
Quick checklist
- One clear topic people can understand in three seconds.
- A bio that says who you help and what they get.
- Three pinned videos that represent your account.
- Series and specific follow reasons in your calls to action.
- Your personality in every video.
